Access Channel 5 will air a three-part series concerning Opiate use and abuse with part one airing at 3:00 and 9:00 PM beginning October 25th and ending on October 31st.
A day-long Community Forum that focused on the growing epidemic of Opiate use and abuse in Chautauqua County was held on March 12, 2014, in Mayville. The purpose of the forum was to bring the community together to have an open conversation in the areas of prevention, education and treatment.
A panel consisting of medical personnel, law enforcement and community officials discussed data on current practices, impacts of drug abuse and barriers that need to be overcome.
During the afternoon segment of the forum, the next steps were developed with regard to increased awareness, prevention, education and treatment. Over 200 people were present for the event, despite the blizzard weather conditions.
Part two of the series will be shown at the same times beginning November 1 and ending November 7th. The final program of the series will continue beginning November 8 until the 14th.
Access Channel 5 (QAM channel 21.4 without a converter) is available to cable viewers in the Mayville, Chautauqua, North Harmony, Sherman, Westfield and Portland areas.
The program may also be viewed after the initial airing at the station's web site http://ac5.weebly.com/
