Access Channel 5 will air the 40-minute documentary, “Big Fish Tri” at 3:00 and 9:00 PM beginning October 11 with the last airing on October 17.
The Big Fish Tri is an Olympic-distance triathlon (roughly a one-mile swim, 25-mile bike, 6-mile run).
The event was held June 7, 2014, based at Jamestown’s Camp Onyahsa, in Dewittville.
The Big Fish Tri website observes, “During the race this year, we had the pleasure of having Snowshoefilms, a local film company, do a documentary on the Big Fish Tri. Many participants and volunteers are featured in the film.”
Filmed for Channel 5, the documentary is narrated by race organizers Patty and Bob Gabreski, and Dr. Robert Berke, the race’s medical director. The documentary also features short interviews with first place winners Dan Pierce (Erie, Pa) and Sandra Ruhlman of Frewsburg.
The event brought nearly 60 triathletes from Western New York and Pennsylvania. Local triathletes include Leslie Johnson and Carolyn Snider of Mayville. From Jamestown: Dallen Ashby, John and Kurt Gustafson, Glen Shoup and Lacy Yeagle; Lakewood: Stephen Matteson, Rudy Mueller, and Lyle Hajdu; Westfield: Amanda Roets; Ashville: Matt Levesque; Chautauqua: Branwen Wright; Kennedy: Ryan Walker.
“A triathlon, especially the Olympic distance, must have all sorts of volunteers: fire, police, rescue boats, timers, divers, kayaks and canoes, motorcycles, ambulances, medics, cooks, set up and clean-up. We tried to show at least some of the people who made this event so successful, so much fun,” observed Karen Harvey, former Chicago Tribune photo editor and news photographer and a founder of snowshoefilms.
Access Channel 5 (QAM channel 21.4 without a converter) is available to cable viewers in the Mayville, Chautauqua, North Harmony, Sherman, Westfield and Portland areas.
The program may also be viewed after the initial airing at the station's web site http://ac5.weebly.com/
